The Lillenium project was designed from its conception to go beyond commercial functions and be a real place of life and exchanges: a warm and lucid town dedicated to the neighbourhood and its inhabitants. With this in mind, an innovative programme is being developed to allow children and adolescents from 2 to 12 years of age to learn and discover new things outside of the school and family settings: Cité des enfants.
With a surface area of 1255 m² dedicated to scientific culture, Lillenium offers a truly playful, educational and cultural space for families. The Cité des enfants in the district of Lille-Sud is made up of two spaces imagined and created by the Paris “Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie”, one for children from 2 to 7 years old and the other for children from 5 to 12 years old. A team of twenty people will welcome the visitors all through the year, 7 days a week.
The metal structure is constructed with curved rectangular profiles with joints bolted on site.
ETFE cushions formed out of 2 transparent sheets 3.50 m wide and 50 m long for the longest of them, have been installed between arch and arch. 77 cushions have been installed in total.
The shopping centre will meet environmental criteria which respect the environment. 77% of the shopping centre will be lighted by natural light thanks to its ETFE roof (semi-crystalline, very resistant materials). A real roof which guarantees an optimum supply of natural light under shelter. It provides resolutely open views of the sky.
